Immigration Evaluations
What Should I Expect in an
Immigration Evaluation?
Immigration evaluations are specialized mental health assessments designed to help document the emotional and psychological impact of life experiences that may be relevant to an immigration case. These evaluations are often used to support legal proceedings by providing professional insight into a person’s mental health, trauma history, emotional functioning, and hardship experiences.
The evaluation process is completed in a supportive, respectful, and nonjudgmental environment.
What Happens During the Evaluation?
The evaluation typically includes:
A detailed clinical interview
Discussion of personal, family, and mental health history
Review of traumatic or stressful life experiences
Exploration of emotional, psychological, and daily functioning
Standardized assessment tools when appropriate
You may be asked questions about:
Family relationships and support systems
Past trauma or difficult experiences
Anxiety, depression, or stress symptoms
Immigration-related challenges or fears
The emotional impact of separation, hardship, or instability
The purpose of these conversations is to better understand your experiences and how they may be affecting your mental health and overall well-being.
What Types of Cases Can an Evaluation Support?
Immigration evaluations may be completed for:
Extreme hardship cases
Trauma-related cases
Asylum-related concerns
Family separation concerns
Other immigration-related legal matters
What Happens After the Evaluation?
Following the assessment, a comprehensive written report may be completed for your attorney or legal case if clinically appropriate. The report summarizes relevant mental health findings, emotional functioning, and the psychological impact of the experiences discussed during the evaluation.
These evaluations are completed professionally, ethically, and with careful attention to detail.
